Headmaster's 'Who' robot memories

A Jersey retired head teacher welcomes the return of a cult TV classic which he had a part in during the seventies.

A retired Jersey head teacher expects the return of the television series Doctor Who to bring back fond memories.

Peter le Breuilly, from St Martin, played a Robot of Death alongside Tom Baker, in six
episodes of the show.

The 55-year-old former actor recently retired as head of Le Squez School (now
known as Samares School).

He describes the return of the cult classic as "fantastic" and believes the new doctor, Christopher Ecclestone, will be a great success.

Peter thinks the series longevity was down to its winning formula: "It was just the simplistic good overcoming evil approach.

"It was allowed to develop and changed with the times - not just the doctors, who each brought there own personalities to the role, but the excellent baddies too."

Peter was just 24 and fresh out of acting school when he landed the part of a Robot of Death, he told us:  "One of my friend told me he wouldn't consider me a real actor until I'd appeared on Doctor Who," he said, "so I was really excited to be working alongside Tom Baker."

And Peter thinks the great storylines were gripping and very forgiving of any of the technical problems and shaky sets: "The Robot of Death costumes were incredibly hot. Especially under the  studio lights. They were quilted and we had to wear full face masks."

Peter wasn't the only Doctor Who actor with a Jersey connection.

Tom Baker, the actor playing Doctor Who during Peter's era was a monk with the Brothers of Ploermel and stayed in a monastery in Jersey.

The main chapel is the only part of the monastery still standing and is now part of Highlands college

The main chapel can also be seen in an episode of the BBC police drama "Bergerac" as the main hall of a fencing school.

Easter comeback

"Some of the scenes took forever to film and seemed like they went on forever. It was a great relief when we finished."

Dr Who  was last on our screens in 1989. It is making a comeback on Easter Saturday at 1900 GMT on BBC ONE and Peter will be watching.

"I'm glad they've kept the original theme and the sound of the TARDIS, it would have been fatal to lose them," he said.

"I'm sure today's children will be just as enthralled. The idea of a Time Lord has never really been surpassed.

"Now that I'm retired, I'm seriously thinking of doing a bit of acting again. It would be fantastic if I could land another role with The Doctor."

I can't believe Superman wears his underpants on the outside. WHO DOES THAT?! Definetly not Dr Who!

Oliver Oram
Dr who is a one off i think the daleks are very screy

Simon Le Breuilly
Peter Le Breuilly is my Uncle. Isn't that cool! And I just love Doctor Who, won't it be fantastic when the new series starts. I can't wait!!!

Jared Maus
I think Peter le Breuilly is sooooo cool as the robot of Death. He is the best there is.

millie
i think the new series is fab! i think that David Tennent does a brilliant job. If i were to choose from chris + david i couln't choose! chris was proborly the best serious doctor and david the funniest!! i cannot watch a single episode less than 5 times because it is brilliant!! i would like to thank the dr who crew for many happy hours of watching dr who.

JAK
Christopher Eccleston plays the part exceedingly well. I think the combination of him and Billie Piper is incredible. The aliens are still really cheesy though... I'd much rather have them than trenchcoat and candy-muncher...

I think the new episodes are a bit silly.(no offence) The older ones are much, much better. Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker did a fantastic performance, with great storylines. However, today's Dr who, has storylines that are a bit flat...as if the writer of the scripts had been out of ideas, and wrote a hurried and quick script.I miss that feeling you get when you see a tv episode on Video, or DVD, and you know it's everyone's fave, and it's loved by all viewers.... However, the next episode, next sat, with Queen Victoria, and a werewolf seems promising....we shall see.....

When the doctors met each other on the three doctors, five doctors, two doctors, and dimensions in time. Those were great. I hope some day they will make the four doctors. it is great to see all or at least some of the doctors together in a story.

rhys

Mr G Le breuilly

I always wanted to be dr.who when i was younger! I took great pleasure in making a cardboard tardis made from used cornflake packets. That was until my mum stopped it all, because I took it on a school trip to La Hougie Bie and wrote a naughty word in the comments book. I blamed K-9 but the school didn't believe me so they stopped me playing galactic cricket. I cried!

steven rowland
I tried (without any success) writing to the script writers of dr.who tempting them with introduction of two new characters called tanya goss and juliette green as damsels from a distant planet for new series. I'm still hoping, atleast i have my memories. I'm off to a tardis for some 'steve alone time'.

Scott Mills
Dan, when did you start running these events again? they were a major talking point of the Dr Who calendar a couple of years back...i remember the Davros costume you made, you looked quite the part! EXTERMINATE!

Daniel Hawson
I love Doctor Who. I have at least one Doctor Who party a year where all my friends come round in fancy dress and we act out our favourite episodes.

Ken Swemmer
I love doctor who, but i loved k-9 even more. I always wanted a k-9 but my mum wouldn't let me, so i attacked her in my darleck costume
