Warwick wins top Disability Award

Warwick Miller is the 2004 Disability Sports Person of the Year, his second major award this year.

At a packed Merton Hotel, Warwick was crowned Jersey Sports Association of the Year Sports Person of the Year at the annual JSAD awards night.

Warwick, aged 23, has been a very active member of JSAD since he was 16, and has always given 100% to everything he does, helping the coaching staff and encouraging his fellow sportsmen to do well.

In 2002, Warwick was particularly taken by long distance running and in spite of significant physical difficulties, he entered and completed the 2003 Hash House Harriers May Half Marathon, lighting up the course with his jovial personality.

Mainly due to his achievements in this event, coupled with his desire to run the 2004 Half Marathon even faster, he was named by the Jersey Sports Council as their first winner of their award for achievement in disability sport earlier this year.

Warwick continues to be very active in a number of different sporting areas including learning difficulties basketball and more recently football, with the St Paul’s Learning Difficulty team.

It will probably come as no surprise that Warwick has been nominated for the top JSAD honour on a previous occasion, and having been narrowly pipped at the post at that time, JSAD are delighted that he has been successful this year, and it also demonstrates the very high calibre of sportsman being attracted to disability sport in Jersey.

Warwick received his award at the Merton Hotel on Saturday 20 November from Gordon Perry, National Wheelchair Basketball Development Manager, and first ever winner of the London Wheelchair Marathon.
