HARDtalk - Constance Briscoe

Jonathan Charles talks to Constance Briscoe.

'Ugly' is the title of Constance Briscoe's bestselling memoir. It could also describe her childhood, as she was abused mentally and physically by her mother. She decided to make her story public despite her public role as a barrister and part time judge, which led to her mother bringing a libel case against her in a British court.

She went public, she says, because she hoped that by giving an account of her own experience she would highlight the issues facing troubled families.
