HARDtalk - Shimon Peres, President of Israel

Stephen Sackur talks to the President of Israel, Shimon Peres, and asks the 85-year-old if he'll live to see Israel at peace with all of its Arab neighbours.

Israel will hold a general election in February 2009, just days after President-Elect Barack Obama officially takes office. Peres hopes that the new US administration will be decisive in brokering a comprehensive Middle East peace deal. According to current opinion polls, the Likud leader, Binyamin Netanyahu, could be the next Israeli Prime Minister, and he has consistently opposed a 'land for peace' deal with the Palestinians.
