Tom Service introduces a concert given at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, with tenor Mark Padmore joining the Britten Sinfonia for a programme of music exploring the theme of night. He directs a dramatic, unconducted interpretation of Britten's Nocturne.

The concert also features BBC New Generation Artist Maxim Rysanov taking the lead in works by Britten and Woolrich.
