Inside
Out meets a new breed of pest lurking in Yorkshire. But your neighbourhood rat is about to become even more of problem. Rat
boom There are an estimated to be 70 million rats in the UK - one
for each person. Yorkshire is one of only two places in the entire country where the rat population went up last year. There are many possible reasons for the rise of the super rat:
Whether its throwing our chip paper on the floor or leaving bags of rubbish outside - disease-carrying rodents thrive on it. Unwanted rodentsOur top tips on dealing with unwanted resident rodents: * be more careful about rubbish disposal and use less disposable containers to minimise rat presence in the first place;
* don't leave out piles
of rubbish for two weeks or longer; Rats
have learned that an unfamiliar object, such as a trap, can be dangerous so conventional
traps may not be as effective as in the past; * rodenticide is one option
including standard rat poison, but be careful how you use it; * as a last resort, call in pest control or Rentokil. Links relating to this story:
