But violets were not just a luxury afforded by royalty. Violet sellers could be found on every street corner of London, selling their wares to gentry and public alike.

The South West met the high demand for the delicate bloom and the region was once dotted with violet fields. Newlyn alone was the site of 100 acres of violet fields.
