ADMIRAL LORD COLLINGWOOD

Collingwood portrait

Portrait of Collingwood

Today's Royal Grammar School is located in Jesmond where there is a Collingwood House in honour of the great Admiral. The school also boasts a large portrait of Collingwood. One of Cuthbert's class mates was John Scott, later Lord Chancellor of England. In his youth Scott eloped with Bessie Surtees from her house on the Quayside, and the window where they escaped can still be seen.
