Bingo players
Its a full house evry night Bingo is being called

Bingo used to be the preserve of the blue rinse brigade. Now it's the most popular group leisure activity in the country - and it's people in their 30s who are flocking to it.

These days bingo is shaking off its unfashionable image, and is transforming itself into a fashion-conscious, youthful game played by people in their 20s and 30s.

Bingo is the new chic night out. So eyes down as we go out to the bingo in Great Yarmouth and Cambridge, 2002 style.

Bingo etiquette

Bingo is taken seriously by its young fans. Here's a few do's and don'ts of the new game.

  • Do concentrate hard on listening to the caller shouting out your numbers. Pay attention to your game.
  • Do mark your card carefully.
  • Do try out other modern bingo style games like keno.
  • Do dress to impress. Turn up at your local in this season's top fashions and club wear.

  • Don't talk excessively when the numbers are being called.
  • Don't pinch someone else's lucky seat!
  • Don't flatten your fellow competitors in your dash to pick up your winnings.
  • Don't go to old style bingo halls where they use bingo lingo.
Bingo Lingo

Bingo has its own language but this is fast dying out. Here's our bluffer's guide to old style bingo lingo.

1. Kelly's eye
4. Knock on the door
6. Half a dozen
7. Lucky for some
8. Garden gate
9. Doctor's orders
10. Tony's den
11. Legs eleven
22. Two little ducks
33. All the threes
55. All the fives
57. Heinz Beanz
88. Two fat ladies
90. Top of the shop

Traditional bingo - clickety click

Today's bingo is a slick affair compared to bingo a decade ago. Some new halls are keen to re-image themselves as Las Vegas style gambling establishments.

Changes in the law will allow Vegas style venues with bigger prizes.

Many new halls in East England have also abandoned the traditional bingo lingo.

Most offer a wide range of prizes, everything from TVs and microwaves to ornaments and fridges.

A night out at the bingo
Play your bingo card right love, and I'm all yours...the new romantic night out!

Bingo is also proving to be a fashionable venue for a romantic night out on the town in our region.

So next time you're looking for Mr or Mrs Right, just play your bingo cards right...
