His family had a long association with the works and he also worked there before going to RADA to study drama.
Walk down almost any street in the UK and you’ll walk past a small piece of this story. Look carefully and you’ll see the Stanton and Stavely name engraved on lamp posts and drain covers. They were made at the Ilkeston ironworks which in its heyday employed seven thousand people. Among them was the actor Robert Lindsay who often returns to Ilkeston to see his dad and visit old friends.
