Kingsnorth Air Base

Inside Out has unearthed a unique picture which rediscovers a vital piece of Britain's World War One history. Until recently virtually nothing was left to remember the country's most important naval air defence base.

The chance discovery of a photograph in East Sussex has rekindled memories of the Kingsnorth airbase in Kent which is now a power station.

The photo of the 1,000 men and women who served there, and the story of the picture's owner, has inspired the Fleet Air Arm to erect a permanent memorial at Kingsnorth.

If you think one of your relatives might have served at Kingsnorth then you can take a look at the BBC Kent website where you can also make contact with others who may also be interested in Kingsnorth, WW1 naval warfare and the birth of aviation.
