Digital Story

If Only... by Mike Russell

Tell us about yourself:
Ex-deputy headteacher (retired after 36 years service), now working for BBC, LearnXpress. I enjoy sport - have played many games, cricket etc. Now divorced, but enjoying my new life.

What’s your story about?
What might have been - if I played cricket to a high level. Dad enjoyed cricket and hoped that I would be successful by playing at county level, but love got in the way. However, I did follow my ambition through my teaching.

Why did you choose to tell this particular story?
Time to get it off my chest and close that particular chapter of my life, finally.

Any other comments?
My thanks to Hull Daily Mail Publications for the use of the following two photographs, Champion Athletics team 1930's and Hull School Cricket XI, 1960.
