Programme Presenters

It was while studying Theatre Design at college that Phil White first had the opportunity to dabble in radio broadcasting and it wasn't long before a hobby became a career path and he was swapping the grease paint and scenery to develop his natural talent for being 'a gob on a stick' (his words) as a radio presenter.

Years of exercising this talent in a variety of radio stations up and down the country give us what we can now tune in to every week day afternoon on BBC Radio Humberside, when at 2.00pm precisely  the affable, effervescent and ebullient Phil White parks his 6ft plus frame in Studio Two's long suffering chair, for a four-hour tea and biscuit fuelled broadcasting extravaganza.

When the rest of us mere mortals are snoozing in an armchair, nodding off at our PCs or struggling to stay awake at the wheel of a vehicle, Phil is revving up for an action packed programme to propel us through to teatime.  Starting with an hour of hand picked tunes from the day's two Golden Years, seasoned with a sprinkling of related trivia between tracks, we're no sooner done with reminiscing when Phil brings us back to the present day with a chat about what's happening in the region this week or the topic for the afternoon's lively 'text-in'.

The remainder of the afternoon hosts a plethora of news and interest based items designed to rattle the old grey matter, make our texting thumbs twitch and give our laughter muscles a brisk work-out.

Between 4.00pm and 6.00pm whether you're stuck in traffic or in the kitchen preparing the evening meal, The Afternoon Show updates you with more frequent travel bulletins and additonal news  for the long distance traveller about the trains, the boats and the planes from Lizzie, Helen, or Neil.  Then there's the latest on the weather and all the local and national up to the minute news delivered in Phil's own inimitable style.

Just before 6.00pm when Burnsey and Co. AKA, the Radio Humberside Sports Team are limbering up with their risqué banter in the studio next door, Phil White in the Afternoon winds to a close.  An audible sigh of relief is expelled from the Studio Two Chair as Phil pulls off his headphones, has a good stretch and starts to ponder the well-earned glass of wine waiting for him at home.
