New Season - New Coverage

As the new football season approaches, BBC Radio Humberside Sport is gearing up for all the action with exclusive news that new 3 year contracts have been signed with both our Championship sides.

We're delighted to have secured new broadcast deals with both Hull City and Scunthorpe United.

This means live commentaries on both clubs on BBC Radio Humberside right through until 2010.

Scunthorpe United face the new season fresh on the heels of their promotion to the Championship, which means local derby matches with Championship rivals Hull City.

While fans at the KC Stadium have already enjoyed 2 seasons playing at this level, it'll be a new experience for the fans at Glanford Park.

With multiple frequencies that can carry the live commentary feeds, you'll be certain of catching our uninterrupted coverage on either 95.9fm or 1485am. We'll also bring you exclusive DAB digital radio coverage of  local games too, usually the game also being broadcast on 1485am.

With the most familiar names in football coverage locally, you'll get all the action with David Burns and Matt Dean. They'll be joined every week at the grounds by our team of expert summarisers too - including George Kerr and Peter Swan.

Meanwhile we're also gearing up to bring you live match reports this season on Grimsby Town. John Tondeur will once again be following the Mariners fortunes.

One question we can answer here for you right now... why can't you listen to the BBC's live match coverage via this web site?

The answer is simple. The commentary rights for football coverage on the web do not belong to the BBC. Instead, each of the clubs has the right to exclusively provide a commentary of their games on the internet.

However, BBC Radio Humberside will offer our match commentaries to the relevant club for them to use on their website, should they wish.

Saturday Sport with David Burns is on air throughout the season on BBC Radio Humberside from 1.30pm, with your chance to join the live post match debate from 5pm in the Football Forum.
