A Forgotten City?

The BBC ran a series of programmes about the flooding that hit our region. The focus was to ask the question "what next?" for the region, as it slowly recovers from the devastation.

It's something no one in the region has ever witnessed before. On Monday 25th June, the equivalent of two months of rainfall fell in just a matter of hours.

Since then, towns and villages across much of England have experienced the same.

Across Hull, 250 streets were flooded and well over 6,000 homes had been affected.

Audrey Griffen is an ex-publican who lives on Worcestershire Close, her bungalow had been damaged by the flooding.

Angelia Rudd and her bottle of disinfectant became a symbol of Hull’s fighting spirit. Twelve days after the flood, the new Prime Minister came to see the disaster for himself.

Homes on the Kingswood and Bransholme estates were turned inside out. Like many others in the area, Adele Fieldhouse and her family are getting used to new sleeping arrangements.

Kim Ryley, the chief executive at Hull City Council, discusses their response to the floods.

Dr James Jackson, lecturer in Psychology at the University of Hull, talks about the potential psychological effects that can develop on people who have suffered in the floods.

Dr Joan Kelley, a microbiologist at CABI gives advice on avoiding health problems when returning to a flooded house.
