The crate contains the life’s work of Betty and Cyril Ramsden from Leeds, amateur film-makers who dedicated their days to capturing the things and people they loved on camera. There was almost no paperwork with the collection but, using the archive, Nation on Film investigates who Betty and Cyril were, and how and why they made their films. Shot on 16mm during the post war years, the technical quality of the films are exceptional. ![]() Film-maker Betty Ramsden They are extraordinary in their recording of the ordinary - a portrait of life in the 1940's and 1950's in Yorkshire. Their film, Humber Highway, is a visual documentary of the East Yorkshire coastline from Spurn Point to Hull. Nation on Film discovers the hidden gems locked away in the secret world of Betty and Cyril. The programme will be transmitted on BBC 2, Monday 2nd April 2007, 7.30pm.
