The Howden pupils involved with the making of the film were Amy Dunn, Danny Walker, Amy Hatton, Alex Dunnington, Amy Ashton, and Alastair Jennings from Y9. Their film is about a feud between two different tribes, the Naturists and the Technos. It is set in the future, one tribe is ruled by a computer screen and the other believes in living as naturally as possible without man-made influences. It was filmed on the grounds of the school. To create the film the group first planned the scenes through storyboards before using props to film the actual scenes with the help of an artist. They then edited it themselves. Luke Parry from Year 10 who was also part of the group had the responsibility of completing the editing over half term. Their film lasts for around eight minutes. The students are the first group from their school to enter the EBLO challenge and this is the first time they have done anything on this scale. All of the students have a little experience with Windows Movie Maker and Luke took part in the Virtual Newsroom challenge last year but all agreed enthusiastically that they would definitely like to make more films again in the future. Alastair also said "I would like to do something in musical theatre". The student’s teacher Abigail Cooper was really pleased with the outcome and said "The students coped brilliantly under pressure and did almost everything themselves with only small amounts of guidance from me". When asked how using media benefits students Abigail said "The pupils find it more enjoyable and so do the teachers therefore attracting more interest from the students". Luke said "It’s better than always writing things down on paper”. Abigail said she would definitely do it again and was going to try it with the Year 7 and Year 8 students in the summer as it went so well. The idea to enter the competition came about when Abigail started a film club which ran every Tuesday evening. The club started out as an hour a week spending time watching films that the pupils were interested in, along with some discussion. The pupils enjoyed it so much Abigail then decided to plan and create a short film with the pupils to enter into the challenge. The students watched the finished product together for first time on the 16th February and it has now been submitted into the competition. |
