For over thirty years, BBC Radio Humberside has run a weekday daily phone-in for people who live in the area to have their say on a huge range of topics. The current programme is 'Soapbox' which is a fair indication of what it's about. A phone-in unites and divides at the same time. From the mundane to the marvellous, any subject is given equal measure. You never know who's listening and sometimes when an irate caller has vented their spleen 'officials' have come back to the programme to offer their assistance, support or at the very least an explanation. The programme starts at 11.30. It's a free-for-all when listeners are invited to call with their views on what our 'experts' have said or to start a totally new conversation. It's a programme that gets things done and I'm very proud to be its current host. It's my job to ensure that everyone gets a fair crack and people in power are made accountable for their actions. My career as a broadcast journalist started in the south of England and cut my teeth so to speak on the news desk at BBC Solent in Southampton before moving to this part of the world, initially to present the tea-time programme here at BBC Radio Humberside. Presenting this show has been an eye-opener at the very least and truly a learning experience. You never know what people will bring to the table. Please do feel free to join the debate, Monday to Friday from 11.30am. Call : 01482 225959. You can text your comments when the programme is being broadcast 07786 200959. And what's more you can take part in lively debate anytime by using the BBC Humber message boards. I've set up a thread called Soapbox and will be reading and commenting on what you have to say. You also have the opportunity to call our 'Rant Line' anytime of day or night on 01482 314432. Leave your comments which will be listened to by the Soapbox team. The most interesting will recorded and broadcast on the programme. And what's more you can take part in lively debate anytime by using the BBC Humber message boards.
