White Rose Movement

White Rose Movement at the Silhouette Club, Hull.

By Ann Gannon
With a dark 80’s influenced image, self-assured singer Finn Vine attempts to lure the crowd hanging around the bar onto the dance-floor.

Finn Vine
Lead singer - Finnn Vine

A dark haired, immaculate, arty looking character, whose stature draws comparisons to Joy Division’s Ian Curtis, Vine falls on the charismatic side of haughty. The rest of the band complements him with equally stylised clothes and hairdos.

Formed in 2002, White Rose Movement has supported the likes of Mylo and The Kills, and is being talked about as the buzz band of the moment.

Tonight, they played a tight live set, edgy synth tinged pop and robotic beats, dark electro indie with a trace of punk.

Their debut single ‘Love is a number’ went down well, a hint of  New Order with pointed tuneful vocals.

Vine’s engaging voice and Taxxi’s synth sets them apart from the bands that they are likened to and despite having such a dominant 80's influence, they have avoided sounding like an imitation.

They lacked dynamic and energy in their live set, but strangely, this casualness only adds to their appeal.

>>White Rose Movement played at the Silhoutte Club in Hull on Saturday 18th June 2005.
