Environmental awareness is the name of the game, yet this room won't look like it's come straight from the scrap yard. A theme of overlapping leaves and light play throughout the room and environmentally-friendly products are used wherever possible.
Everything fits in with the 3 R's of environmental friendliness, Re-use, Re-duce, Re-cycle.

Painting walls
Paint the walls in Eco Paints Birch colour, then, in certain areas of the room, stencil on leaves on braches in two colours; pink and magenta. |

|
Cupboard
Create doors on the alcove cupboard from ZF MDF (with no added formaldehyde). Inset the doors with panels of re-used pub carpet. Paint in the wall colours. |
|
|
|
Slate effect tiles
Cover the inside of the window area with slate effect tiles, made from recycled rubber (ie old car tyres). |
|
|
|
Bed head wall
Clad the wall behind with reclaimed floorboards to create a natural feel in the room. |

|
|
Bed head
Using leather and suede coats from a charity shop, create strips of MDF about 10cm (4in) wide, then upholster with foam and strips of leather. Attach these to the existing bed head. |
|
|
|
Footstool
Create a footstool from MDF and top it with recycled plastic filled with shredded five pound notes. |
|
|
|
Re-use sideboard
Re-surface an old sideboard with offcut strips of mirror from a local glass shop. |
|
|
|
Rug
Create a rug around the bed by sticking carpet tiles together. Do not continue under the bed where the rug will not be used, thereby preventing waste. |
