Walls
Walls
Paint the top 1/4 of the walls in blue emulsion. Fix timber batons to the walls. Cut a piece of 6mm plywood into lengths of 1.6m and scorch with a gas blowtorch. Paint with wood stain and fasten them to the battening to create a wood-panelled effect.
Fireplace
Fireplace
Replace an old MDF fireplace with a traditional white plaster one, then paint it the same colour as the blue walls, to make the room look uniform and to ground the dark wooden panelling.
Pinstripe cushions
Pinstripe cushions
Buy some pinstripe fabric, cut it into 40cm squares and sew the squares together. Then sew lengths of coloured ribbon over the front of each cushion.
Colour stripe wall
Colour stripe wall
Tackle a problem area in the corner of the room by painting the wall in stripes of bright colours that match the colours of the ribbon on the cushions.
Playing card lamp
Playing card lamp
Make a clever and desirable lampshade using Card Tec fasteners and packs of playing cards. Fasten the cards round the frame of an existing drum lampshade and attach it to an old antique wooden floor lamp base.
Wallpaper pictures
Wallpaper pictures
Insert pieces of wallpaper in junk shop ornate gilded frames. Using transfer paper, blow up images from playing cards on a photocopier, and place them on the surface of the wallpaper. Use gold picture lights to illuminate the features.
Etched playing card table
Etched playing card table
Cover a junkshop table with red leather and place glass on top. Photocopy images of playing cards onto A4 paper, and cut out the black areas to make a stencil. Lay the stencil over the glass and spray with spray paint, to create a gold etched effect.
