Brighten up a dark cottage living room with a base of classic neutrals lifted with shots of chartreuse green, bold pattern and textures.

Walls
Use two shades of khaki above and below the dado rail, and diluted pale khaki eggshell for the woodwork. Above the dado rail decorate with discs of painted lining paper. |

Bi-fold doors
To conceal the small office area under the stairs add bi-fold doors painted in a cream water based eggshell and decorate with small sheets of mirror and diagonal batons. |

|
|
Lighting
Decorate existing ceramic up-lighters and a new ceiling chandelier with lengths of porcelain droplets wired together with laminated photographic transparencies and hang from MDF formers from the ceiling above each light. |

|
|
Nautical travel theme
Take three old leather trunks and decorate, using a decoupage technique with old nautical maps and ships deeds, and continue this theme onto the MDF table to sit over the trunks. |
|
|
|
Extra touches
Sand and paint the furniture, except the dining table, in cream water based eggshell. Make new seat cushions from natural linen, and a large throw for the sofa from fake fur. |
|
|
|
Curtains
Add a border of natural linen to cream curtains and paint a funky design onto it using a polystyrene cup dipped into the khaki paint. |
