Four poster bed |

|
Create a bedroom which draws heavy influence from the Arts and Crafts Movement. The bed is the focal point of this room, taking centre stage in the middle of the space.

Walls
Paint the walls a rich shade of orange. For a truly authentic look, choose a colour from one of the many heritage ranges. Compliment this colour with a band of deeper terracotta. Stencil a damask design in varnish onto the band. |

Canopy
Create a drop ceiling effect above the bed. Construct a simple frame and stretch muslin over it, pleating the material as you go along. Fit pine effect architrave around the sides. Drape more muslin on the corners to give the effect of a four-poster bed. |

|
|
Bed
To complete the effect, move the bed into the centre of the room. Use off-cuts of various plush damask fabrics to make a patchwork quilt and a bolster cushion to dress the bed. |

|
|
Bedside lights
Make matching bedside lights to be positioned on the headboard. Stick strips of fabric onto plain white lamp shade to create the ultimate original lighting scheme. |

|
|
Fireplace
Accentuate the traditional look with the fireplace. Keep the surround plain marble and paint the area inside the surround to match the walls. Dress the hearth with plain white candles. |

|
|
Mirror
Position a mirror above the mantelpiece. Drill a hole in the centre and fix an elaborate candle holder to the mirror. The lights from this will be reflected in the mirror to create a fantastic effect. |
|
|
|
Wardrobes
To complete the look add a touch of detail to the remaining wood in the room. Give old wardrobes and drawers a new lease of life with simple marquertry tape. |
