Decking
Decking features heavily in this design. Different effects can be achieved by placing the textured side upwards, where it will be open to the elements, or downwards to create a smooth surface for bare feet. |

|
Glass cubes
Introduce three timber and glass cubes of the same size to the top end of the garden, graduating down to follow the existing fall of the land. |
|
|
|
Bridge
From the glass cubes, position steps down to a decked bridge over a natural water feature. |
|
|
|
Water feature
Keep the garden safe for children by introducing mini water fountains over pebbles and boulders. |
|
|
|
Pavilion
Beyond the water feature introduce a lawn, interspersed with planting leading to an open pavilion. This structure is rather like an open temple constructed from large telegraph poles, timber deck and roof, which floats off the lawn area. |

|
Planting
Go for both native and oriental planting that introduce colour and texture to the scheme. Maples, bamboo, conifers and grasses sit alongside silver birch, wisteria, rhododendrons and azaleas and soften the garden structures and design. |
|
|
|
Inspiration
Diarmuid visited Kyoto Garden in Holland Park, London which contains all the natural elements of a typical oriental garden. |
