Gothic is back! This season, catwalks from most major designers have Gothic influences in their collections. The high street fashion stores have naturally followed suit. This latest gothic revival is generously romanticised.
Fashion and interiors throughout history have borrowed from one another. This is particularly evident in 70s and 80s fashion, which was reflected directly in interior design. Inspirational, romanticised gothic is sure to be the next big thing.

Walls
Paint the dining room walls with purple and crimson colours as these suit the Gothic look perfectly. Make Gothic arch shaped panneling and paint turquoise. Place large flowered wallpaper in each arch. |

|
Tiles
Mount tiles onto the wall with tile adhesive allowing 2mm space between the tiles for grouting. |
|
|
|
Window dressing
Make a pelmet structure for your window from MDF. Cover the pelmet with grape coloured fabric fastening it firmly to the back of the pelmet with either a staple gun or fabric glue. Hang above the window to continue the theme of the room. |

|
|
Table
Make a table top from oak veneered MDF. Attach four newel posts for the legs. Cut a section from the centre of the table using a jigsaw leaving a lip along the inside of the hole. Place a sheet of glass in the centre of the table. |

|
|
Candlesticks
Make a set of candlesticks from staircase posts. Mount a post onto an MDF base. Make an MDF top plate and then decorate the whole structure with gold leaf. Rub in burnt umber and deep red acrylic paint for a fabulous finish. |

|
|
Welsh dresser
Transform a second-hand dresser into a fantastic feature. Sand the wood down and apply dark oak wood stain. Cut a plinth shape out of MDF and attach to the top of the dresser. Add gold hinges and handles for the finishing touch. |
|
|
|
Chairs
Simply sand down some bought chairs and then paint on a coat of primer. When dry, spray with gold spray paint to create a simple but dramatic look. Make sure this is done in a well ventilated area and that you wear a mask. |
|
|
|
Candelabra
Buy simple candelabra and dress this up using thin flexible wire and a selection of beads and gems. |
|
|
|
Finishing touches
Dress the room with a vase of roses. |
|
|
