Dining room table
Design
If you have an item of furniture that you love, consider designing the room around it. Here a beech and glass dining table has been used as inspiration. Wood and glass predominate in the room along with chrome fittings and unusual modern features.
Smoothing the floor
Prepare the area
Level the floor and smooth down the walls. Remove old wall tiles and if you have a fireplace you no longer want to use, block it up and smooth the wall down.
Kitchen units
Kitchen units
A flat pack kitchen unit works well in this design. If you choose one with plinth feet, remember that the floor will have to be tiled right up to the walls.
Flooring
Flooring
Tile the floor with frosted glass effect tiling. These tiles will work brilliantly and coordinate with the dining table.
Partition wall
Partition wall
Create a partition to separate the eating area from the rest of the kitchen. Start by building a framework from batons. Then cut out spaces for shelving. Use spotlights to illuminate the shelves individually.
Wall colour
Wall colour
Paint the walls pistachio green to create a fresh modern feel. Use a darker emerald green for the walls on either end of the room to make the room feel less oblong shaped.
Wall art
Wall art
If you have artistic flair, paint some unique pictures for the wall. Why not use the kitchen as a theme.
Accessories
Accessories
Accessorise the room with wood and chrome objects. Look for chrome plant pots to sit on your window sill.
Top Tip

"When patching up after chasing in cables in the wall, use a hard wall backing plaster to fill the majority of the hole, then use a multi-finish plaster to smooth over the top." Bob Grose
