Classic Cream Dining Room
Classic Cream Dining Room
Room: Dining Room
Colours: Cream;
Style: Modern;
Budget: Medium
Programme: Housecall
Designer: Michael Jewitt;
Feature: Colourful screen
Clean, cream, dining is a look that many people love. Create a cream dining room without it looking plain. The dark wooden floor enhances the warm cream and the wall panelling creates a very classic look in the room.

Cream is the number one paint colour for Dulux and Benetton, and the number two Crown colour after Peach. It is all about clean, calm, classic lines and colours.

The room
Colour scheme
Paint the walls in shades of classic cream to keep the room clean and warm. Fit a dark floor of laminate wood to enhance the cream on the walls and keep the room practical for dining.
Patchwork curtains
Patchwork curtains
Add texture to the room by making patchwork curtains out of a variety of different cream fabrics.
Panelling
Panelling
Add interest to your walls with wooden panelling. Make easy panelling out of MDF to create a classic look for very little money. Paint in a contrasting cream shade to the main wall area
Wooden chairs
Wooden chairs
For a restrained and harmonised look use soft forms of furniture and moulded plywood shapes. For more definition and surprise, give them an edge by introducing some soft touches of black.
Glass fronted cabinet
Glass fronted cabinet
Position a simple glass fronted cabinet in the corner of the room. Colour the wood cream. For a sophisticated finish, transform the glass doors by adding stick on opaque plastic strips to the rear side of the glass.
Bright screen
Bright screen
Create a colourful screen. Take a photograph of your chosen design such as a flower. Scan it onto a computer, enlarge it and print it onto A3 paper. Mount onto a large plywood curved screen.
Accessories
The table
Make a simple table from MDF. Leaving a margin of about 3 inches around the edge, secure cream faux leather to the tabletop. This is both sophisticated and easy to clean. Lay the table with simple cream coloured crockery.
Top Tip

The colour cream provides an excellent base for a room allowing the accessories and furniture to create the character of the room. Cream also reflects the light and therefore appears to make a room appear bigger.
