Bring a taste of the East into the bedroom by using warm inviting colours and rich textures. Sari fabrics and cushions in bright red, gold and pink are used to create a luxurious feel.

Red walls
Paint the walls red to create a romantic cosy Oriental atmosphere in the bedroom. |

|
Pewter effect lantern
Paint a lantern with coat of dark emulsion and leave to dry. Add a light grey emulsion with a stippling brush. Dip the brush into a small amount of paint and using jabbing movements, go over the dark paint, creating a distressed effect. |

|
|
Oriental look walls
Use an oriental stamp with metallic paint to produce an Eastern look. Using a small roller, dab paint on the stamp, and then press firmly on the wall. Dont worry if the print is slightly faded, it gives an aged, textured look. |

|
|
Light shade
Customise an economy lampshade by gluing Indian-styled jewels onto it. Fix the beads in place with a drop of glue. Choose rich red and pink shades to enhance the Eastern design. |

|
Curtains
Make a prominent pelmet around the window and hang red curtains behind it for a rich feel. |
|
|
|
Sari canopy
Attach a pole above the middle of the bed and by the wall and then drape a sari through the poles and hang behind the bed. |
|
|
|
Decorate the bed
Cover the bed with lots of cushions and use the bed for lounging on as well as sleeping in. |
|
|
|
Finishing touches
Make some Eastern style night light holders. Paint the outside of a candle holder with red glass paint and finish with a touch of gold paint on the rim. To create a more unusual look, place some beads threaded on picture wire around the candle. |

|
|
Sari fabric is cheap and highly decorative. Use the fabric to make a canopy, roman blinds and cushions. |
