Sir Hugh Carleton Greene KCMG OBE

Sir Hugh Green's final role in the BBC was as Director General, reaching this position in January 1960. The role of the 'DG' is tough yet hugely rewarding, and under Greene's leadership the BBC fundamentally changed. Arguably, through his reforms, the BBC became much closer to its audience than in previous years. He recorded his memories for the Collection in 1982.
