Who was the first ever Doctor Who?
William Hartnell in Nov 1963, a veteran of stage and screen, who saw the Doctor role as an ideal opportunity to break away from the usual military roles he played. He was followed by 10 further Doctors, the latest of whom is Matt Smith. Doctor Who is the longest running scifi series in the world.
