My father was a Royal Marine who joined up in 1942 and really did see the world from Rothesay to Cochin Island via Kent,Normandy and many places inbetween. His experiences obviously shaped hislife and therefore mine.He was the most wonderful Father and I miss him every day.
Anyway,he never spoke about the war and my childhood was spent half in Germany and half in England as his younger brother had married a very beautiful German lady and we went on holiday to them regularly.
I was amazed and delighted to read his memoirs when he began to write them following a family holiday with my husband and myself to Normandy in about 1990.It was the first time he had been back to Normandy since D-Day.Emotional indeed.
I am posting his memoirs in bits -as they are quite long - in the hope that his voice will carry on.
Bless you,Dad.
