John and a Group of comrades when undergoing training, probably at Amersham in 1942.

This story was submitted to the People’s War web site by a volunteer on behalf of John Brereton and has been added to the site with his permission. He fully understands the site’s terms and conditions.

He was a Troop Sergeant Major in the Royal Marines. After serving in HMS Coventry, he retruned to England and was selected to join the Naval Intelligence Service under Commander Ian Flemming (Author of the James Bond Stories). After training in Amersham, he did his first operations in North africa, attached to the First American division.
