My grandfather once told me a story about when he was serving on a destroyer as radioman.
He picked up a german submarine on sonar and the ship deployed depth charges.
Eventually my grandfather couldnt pick up the sub on sonar any more so they concluded that it had sunk .
Only 1 man from the entire crew made it up to surface.
