Hugh Gillis was Isabella Wallace Picken's Cousin.

He survived the war his wife was Agnes Craig and they had two daughters.

Message 1 - Regimental Badge

There are only two Scottish regimental badges of that size: the King's Own Scottish Borderers and the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. It is difficult to decide with such an oblique view but it is possibly the first, the KOSB. If your original photo is larger, compare it with the badge here links The second possibility is here links

However, the more I look at it, from the projection at the top, the more I am persuaded that it is the KOSB.
