In 1950 I was in charge as Night sister at Ronkswood hospital. The patients there had all been prisoners of the Japanese and were left with appalling leg ulcers which had to be repaired with skin Grafts taken from other parts of their bodies. Because of the conditions they had had to endure they were not in very good condition to supply skin grafts. When a flap of skin was found they then had to endure weeks of discomfort in plasters while the grafts stabilised. Yet never once did they complain. They were great lads and I remember them with great love for their fortitude and good behaviour to me as a very young nurse who really no idea what the job she had come to do would involve.I think of them and although I cannot remember their names I do remember their gallantry that first six months of 1950. When you stop to realise that this was almost four years after the war was finished and yet still they suffered from a war that was fought to save our country and our freedom!!! I do have photos of them but not the facility or the knowledge to put them on the computer. If someone wanted to use the photos I would be very happy to do this. Meanwhile if anyone knows someone who was at Ronkswood Hospital Worcester at this time I would be very happy to hear from them. sincerely
