Princess Elizabeth (37 secs.)

When she grew up, Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth, our present queen. She was only in her teens during the Second World War, and made this special radio broadcast to children who had been evacuated. She wanted them to know that she was thinking of them and that she knew how they must feel being far from home.

News bulletins (35 secs.)

A family would gather together round the radio to hear news of how the war was going. People became so used to hearing the newsreaders' voices that they felt they knew them!
