About the author

Dr Peter J Ling is currently senior lecturer in American history in the School of American & Canadian Studies, University of Nottingham, where he has taught the Civil Rights Movement since 1989. In addition to his recent biography of King, he is the co-editor [with Sharon Monteith] of Gender in the Civil Rights Movement.
