Andrew Williams recounts the sobering experience of filming in Cambodia, a country that has failed to come to terms with its genocidal past.

Arriving at Phnom Penh

We arrived at Phnom Penh airport to be met by our Cambodian line producer and a British Embassy official, who helped us through customs. Thankfully we managed to leave the airport with all our equipment.

Our hotel is a smart new block on the river Tonle Sap, only a stone's throw from the place where Pol Pot and the other leaders of the revolution lived in their special compound. A huge casino has now been built close to the site.
