The Barton is a unique piece of not one past but several. The Barton (the medieval name for a small manor house) first appears in records around 1350, but a recent archaeological study of the house revealed a Saxon window frame in the kitchen, leading to speculation that the site may have been occupied a good deal earlier. The main body of the house and its main outbuildings, however, date from the 17th century with later additions made in the 18th century.
