Regional Information
Set just 50km from the Mull of Kintyre, the harbour at Cushendun has been a much-used ferry point since man first settled on the north coast of Ireland. Much of the unique character of the village dates from the early 1900s and was developed under the patronage of Ronald John McNeill, the first baron of Cushendun.
The picturesque, though isolated village of Cushendun, which means 'Foot of the Dun', came under National Trust ownership in 1954 and today the village and surrounding countryside is home to around 1000 people, many of whom are commuters drawn by the beauty of the surroundings and easy anchorage.
