1986 Sibsey Trader Windmill

There is a fully-working windmill in
Sibsey, called the Sibsey Trader Mill.
It was built in 1877 by Messrs.
Saunderson. It worked until the 1950s.
It is built of brick and has only
 recently been restored. The small
museum was opened this year. The mill
was the property of the Crawford
family but it now belongs to National
 Heritage. The Windmill
        The windmill stood alone
on the side of the bank.
        The white and black door
        swaying in the wind.
The sails turning as the wind
        Gently blew the fantail round.
        The windows opened and shut.
        The poor old windmill
        Stood alone
On the side of the bank.
           (Nicola Beardsley)

What is Domesday?

In 1986 the BBC launched an ambitious project to record a snapshot of everyday life across the UK for future generations. A million volunteers took part…  read more here

In 2011 the BBC published the survey online and for six months invited updates to the photographs and text to celebrate the 25th anniversary.

Shortly afterwards the website was added to The National Archives’ UK Government Web Archive.

If you are reading this via UK Government Web Archive, then the original Domesday search function and contact form will not work. This is a consequence of the archiving process. See Using Domesday for more details.
