Textiles have always been important   
 in  Hucknall especially framework     
 knitting.A few smaller firms still    
 make garments.The major textile firms 
 Highfields,Jaeger,Vedonis and Viyella 
 who between them employ about 850     
 local people. Vedonis make underwear, 
 Viyella mens shirts, Highfields       
 knitwear and Jaeger ladies sweaters.  
 All firms have experienced            
 difficulties with only Vedonis        
 expanding. All firms blame low-cost   
 foreign imports for non-expansion. App
  rox 240,000 garments are produced per
 week with  Vedonis producing 3/4 of   
 this. All companies export but most
