1986 APPLEBY MAGNA CHURCH

  In 1300AD the chapel was built and   
 later on in the 14th century the two  
 aisles,tower and steeple were added.  
 Some of the windows still have the    
 original stained glass.In the last    
 hundred years improvements have been  
 done to the church such as some new   
 windows and heating.In 1982 the six   
 bells were restored and rehung .There 
 are two alabaster effigies in the     
 church.They are Sir Edmund de Appleby,
 who fought at the battle of Crecy in  
 1346,and his wife Dame Joan. At their 
 feet are a dog and a lion.            
  The Reverend David Greenwood looks   
 after our church along with Swepstone 
 and Snarestone. He is the 43rd rector 
 since 1200AD. Before he came here he

In 2011 the BBC published the survey online and for six months invited updates to the photographs and text to celebrate the 25th anniversary.

Shortly afterwards the website was added to The National Archives’ UK Government Web Archive.
