1986 HOUSING TOURISM

 This area consists mainly of farmland 
 for cattle and sheep.It is very near  
 the great tourist attraction of Foun_ 
 tains Abbey.Nearby are Grantley Hall  
 and Sawley Hall.Some houses in the    
 small village of Sawley are more than 
 two hundred years old.The newest were 
 built in 1984/85.The older houses once
 belonged either to Sawley Hall or the 
 Fountains Estate.The tenants bought   
 their properties when Sawley Hall and 
 Fountains Estate were sold to raise   
 money for death duties.There is a     
 Parish Room,an inn, a Primary school,a
 village hall,a shop with a Post Office
 a village green with a water pump     
 still in use within living memory,a   
 Church and a Chapel.A library van     
 calls weekly.Thurs.bus to Ripon       
 market.Dr's surgery held at Kirkby    
 Malzeard.Butcher's van twice_weekly   
 from Pateley Bridge.

In 2011 the BBC published the survey online and for six months invited updates to the photographs and text to celebrate the 25th anniversary.

Shortly afterwards the website was added to The National Archives’ UK Government Web Archive.
