1986 HOMELIFE AND DAIRY FARMING

 New Barn Farm has l97 acres & 108     
 dairy cows. Father-in-law had farmed  
 the land as a tenant of Lord          
 Shaftesbury since l932. Son-in-law    
 purchased farm in 1976. Employs a     
 dairyman. The Milk Marketing Board    
 take milk which goes to Southampton & 
 Bournemouth. 2 adults & 2 children in 
 family. Wife helps on farm. School,   
 shops, doctor in Cranborne (4 miles). 
 A car is a must, so is telephone &    
 freezer. New Barn Cottages are semi-  
 detached, 1 occupied by farmworker,   
 the other cottage owned by single lady
 who works in Poole. There are also 2  
 pairs of modernised semi-detached     
 cottages occupied by 4 couples. All   
 keen gardeners, growing vegetables,   
 fruit & flowers. 1 husband is a deer  
 stalker, 3 husbands commute. 2 cars   
 per family. All have pets, phone &    
 freezer, and cook by electricity.
