1986 WOOD MERCHANTS
WOOD MERCHANTS IN HOGHTON MARSHALL'S WOOD AND SLATE MERCHANTS IS LOCATED ON A QUIET COUNTRY ROAD TO THE NORTHEAST OF THE VILLAGE. OLD WOOD AND SLATES ARE TAKEN FROM NUMEROUS AREAS IN LANCASHIRE, WHERE OLD VICTORIAN TERRACED ROWS OF HOUSES ARE BEING DEMOLISHED. THE FIRM GOES AS FAR AS MANCHESTER, BOLTON AND LIVERPOOL. THE OLD WOOD IS SOLD MAINLY TO LOCAL FARMERS FOR NEW FENCING. THE SLATES ARE USED BY BUILDERS FOR REPAIRING EXISTING SLATE ROOFS.
