1986 CHEDDAR EVENTS

  Apart from such events like the fun  
 run,school sports days,fetes and      
 carnivals,there are two events that   
 are special to Cheddar.               
 CHEDDAR BED RACE is run on the first  
 Saturday in June,when sponsored teams 
 of five race around the village       
 pushing a decorated bed.They wear     
 fancy dress and during the run each   
 team member has to drink a pint of    
 beer in three different pubs and eat  
 Cheddar cheese and dry biscuits in a  
 fourth pub.Money raised is given to   
 local charities.                      
 MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS are held on the  
 first Monday in May at Fairlands House
 A May Queen is chosen from one of the 
 girls of the village.There is Morris  
 dancing,maypole dancing, stalls       
 selling things like as ice cream and  
 candy floss and games like skittles.  
 They are lots of fun.
