1986 Employment at Cynheidre.

 Cynheidre Colliery is the largest     
 employer in the Gwendraeth Valley.    
 1,100 miners are employed here apart  
 from clerical staff and managerial    
 personnel.The workforce come from a   
 radius of fifteen miles.Buses are     
 provided free for the workers.There   
 are showers for the miners and also a 
 good canteen providing reasonably     
 priced meals.                         
 Of the 1,100 miners 1,000 work        
 underground and the rest are in the   
 washeries and various other           
 occupations on the surface.           
 Cynheidre Colliery was involved in a  
 nationwide strike from March 12th 1984
 to March 5th 1985.The workforce is now
 working normally.Labour relations are
