1986 Employment in Pembrey (1)

These are the results of a survey we
carried out to find the type of
employment in our area. The sample we
took was of fathers of children in the
junior section of Pembrey C.P. school.
 75% work outside the village
  5% work in the village
 20% are unemployed
From our survey we found that some
fathers travel hundreds of miles to
find a job e.g. Saudi Arabia. Others
have jobs in Burry Port, Llanelli or
Swansea. Most travel to work by car,
others by motor-bike or vans and some
 by bus. Jobs vary greatly.
These are some of the jobs:
 Printer Surveyor Policeman
 Welder Mechanic Electrician
 Salesman Publican Bank manager
 Clerk Singer Chimney sweep
 Cobbler Painter Factory worker
 Miner Builder Lorry driver

In 2011 the BBC published the survey online and for six months invited updates to the photographs and text to celebrate the 25th anniversary.

Shortly afterwards the website was added to The National Archives’ UK Government Web Archive.

If you are reading this via UK Government Web Archive, then the original Domesday search function and contact form will not work. This is a consequence of the archiving process. See Using Domesday for more details.
