1986 General

 The block is,of course,dominated by
 the village of Ballaugh.Many
 people live here.Farming provides the
 main local occupation,especially dairy
produce on the lower land. However the
main portion of the block is upland
which is moor and occupied only by
 sheep.
Other than farming there is very
 little employment in the village.So
the rest of the population commute to
the main towns to work. The two
 principal ones being Douglas(18 miles)
 and Ramsey(8 miles)
There is a very strong community
spirit in the village and in the
 surrounding countryside,where anyone
residing in the parish can feel a
 part.
In short there are old fashioned
 virtues mingled with modern aspects.

In 2011 the BBC published the survey online and for six months invited updates to the photographs and text to celebrate the 25th anniversary.

Shortly afterwards the website was added to The National Archives’ UK Government Web Archive.

If you are reading this via UK Government Web Archive, then the original Domesday search function and contact form will not work. This is a consequence of the archiving process. See Using Domesday for more details.
